My Jottings
People who know me know that I have a habit of jotting things down on scraps of paper during preaching time, and then sticking them in my Bible. About every six months I shake them all out. Well, I don't actually shake my Bible. I take them out gently. :) I used to write them directly into my Bible, and sometimes I still do that instead. But it has to be something really good to make it into there, and I really prefer to have my Cross pen in hand for such a moment. Fine point, blue. I know-- I'm weird. We've already established that. When I take them out I write the best of them into my Bible or a notebook. Or at least, I try. I know I've lost lots. Anyway, I thought I'd share a few with you. This is good stuff. I'll give credit if I remember who said it, but ofttimes the speaker was not the originator of the thought anyway. Preachers, like bloggers, sometimes 'borrow' thoughts. :) 1. Don't quit. Too many people have invested in you. 2. There is more mercy in Him than sin in us. 3. Prayer is drawing near to God; not giving Him an update on current events. 4. No one ever cared for me like Jesus! (Charles Weigle is the hymn writer. But sometimes, a line from a song will move me in a more powerful way than it ever has before, even though I've sung it many hundreds of times. At that point, it becomes just a thought removed from the hymn that I must write down.) 5. You need the hide of a rhinoceros to survive in the ministry of God. ~Pastor Jack Caldwell 6. What you believe determines how you behave. 7. It's okay to be in a predicament. 8. God parted with His Son so that we could be reunited with our loved ones forever. 9. Lean in close. The things of earth will grow strangely dim. 10. Give Him more control of what He owns. (you) 11. Do right till the stars fall; just do right! - Dr. Bob Jones (I used to keep this up in BIG letters on the wall of my classroom.) 12. Seek personal purity! 13. God is not obligated to deliver us from our foolishness. 14. You can't say or do anything to affect my relationship with God. 15. No my worry; no my care! ~Sarah Jane Olszewski Danner (She would say this all of the time when she was about four. I think it was mainly in response to the torturing of her two older sisters. But I've always thought that it had a huge spiritual application.)
